What is a Nip Load Calculator?
This tool estimates mechanism nip force and linear nip load from cylinder force, lever ratio, mechanical efficiency, roll weight contribution and face length.
Formula Used
Mechanical ratio = input arm / output arm. Mechanism force = total cylinder force x ratio x efficiency. Linear nip load q = Fnip / face length.
Engineering Applications
Useful for preliminary nip pressure planning, converting cylinder force into roll contact load and discussing automation or machine-specific calculator development.
FAQs
Should roll weight always be added?
No. Gravity contribution depends on machine orientation and linkage geometry. Use assist, oppose or ignore based on the actual mechanism.
Can this become a machine-specific estimator?
Yes. Maitrix can digitize your exact mechanism, validated factors and reporting format into a private tool.
